I want to be real! The world does not need more “Sunday” Christians. The world does not need more “Pharisees” or “Sadducees”. There are certainly enough of those already, don’t you think? Or maybe you aren’t sure what I’m talking about.
The Pharisees of Jesus’ day were all about rules. They had rules for every situation. They burdened everyone with their rules and laws. Of course they didn’t follow their own rules, but found excuses or loop-holes for themselves. I know a number of Christian who are like that. To them it is all about their rules. You have to worship their way. They pick which parts of the Bible are important to follow. They will burden you to the place that there is no joy in life. The Pharisees of today give Jesus a bad name.
The Sadducees are not any better. The Sadducees are Christians who don’t even believe the Bible. These are the Christians who use the liberty in Christ as an excuse to sin. They follow the “eat, drink, and be merry” road. To the Sadducees all things are lawful. The Sadducees have no problem with what is open sin. Jesus told his disciples to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Matthew tells us that he meant by this to be aware of the false teaching of these groups (Matthew 16:5-12). It was always either the Sadducees or the Pharisees who were trying to trip Jesus up in something he might say or do, so that they would have some legitimate way of bringing a charge against Jesus. That sounds pretty silly, yet people today are no different. Listen closely. One group will appose you because you are not as strict as they are or as “righteous”. Another group will go after you because of your antiquated beliefs. They don’t think all the “Bible stuff” is real. Human nature never changes. That is the reason we needed a Savior.
Yet, the world desperately needs to see genuine, real, heat-felt faith. A genuine faith follows Christ wherever He leads. A real Christian does not hunt for an excuse to sin. A genuine Christian doesn’t place unbiblical, man-made rules and laws on others either.
Christians are never to change the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are not to excuse sin. We never say that sin is alright for today because we live in a more “enlightened” age. We love each and every sinner, because they are just like us. They are each a person who Jesus died to save. All of us are sinners in need of a Savior. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. He came to save me. He came to save you.
So, how do you know real, genuine, heart-felt faith? If you know you are a sinner in need of a Savior, and you cry out to this man, Jesus, who the Bible says came to save you from your sin, and surrender your life to Him, He will fill your heart with faith, a real, genuine, heart-felt faith. How do I know? I know because I am a sinner, saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe He is exactly who He said he was and I believe He is coming again.
Pick up that dusty old Bible and read it anew. Trust the words written there. Then take that leap of faith into the arms of a waiting God who is ready for you to call Him your Father.
